PERSONALITY!
Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric

Even from the beginning, Harley was never alone and so he's never felt particularly on his own. He doesn't really understand loneliness as much as he does the desire to get away, to be anywhere but where he is. Because of this, he can be flighty and restless. It bleeds into his dating life as well. He doesn't stay with anyone for very long before he starts to feel trapped or he starts to notice things that he can turn into reasons to stop being with them. Being a twin hasn't helped this because if his sister doesn't seem particularly sold on someone, he won't even think twice about dumping them. In addition, he refuses to date or befriend people who talk shit about his sister. That's just how it is.

Harley doesn't necessarily feel as much responsibility for himself or his actions as he probably should. He knows what he should do and what he shouldn't do, he just...doesn't really choose to do the things that he should as often as his parents would probably like him to. It doesn't mean he doesn't ever. Just less than what he should do, but he's a teenager and so he's pretty sure this is how he's supposed to behave. You see it in all the movies and old people complain about teenagers doing shit they shouldn't all the time. He's just living up to their expectations...which are set really low.

While he may seem less than intelligent to the general public, Harley is actually fairly smart. He does well in school academically, he just does things that get him in enough trouble that it makes it hard for his teachers to know what to say to him. He doesn't respond to the general 'You're so much better than this' or 'I know you're a smart boy, but you need to think about your choices more'. He does think about his choices, he just...doesn't make the ones that other people expect him to make. Maybe it's just lingering childishness or being too smart for his own good. He hasn't really figured that part out yet.

When it comes to his twin sister, Harley is every inch the honey badger that his mum is. He will use his magic to give a guy or girl a wedgie if they make her upset. It's probably where you see him at his most creative, when he's coming up with ways to get back at people for causing his sister even the slightest hint of upset. Anyone she dates gets side-eyed like none other with the unspoken understanding that if they hurt her, they're in for a world of even more hurt. Harley isn't really a fist fighting sort of boy. He doesn't like to put that much effort into something that will hurt him just as much as it might hurt the other person. He also isn't very good at it and knows it's not a strong point, so he sticks to his magic. Maybe it's not fair to the other person, but a fist fight would be just as unfair to him, so he's not about to apologise for that.

Influence from the Marauders has given Harley more than his fair share of knowledge when it comes to pranks. Even the non-magical pranking. It's also done nothing to dissuade him from his general 'little to no responsibility' feelings. It's probably Peter and Remus' influence, however, that tempers it a little and keeps him from being entirely cruel. So he does his best to keep from doing anything that can't be easily repaired physically or that leaves someone too emotionally scarred.

He definitely doesn't have his life figured out yet. The idea that he's almost in college makes him feel just as trapped as anything else in his life. Or that he's supposed to be. So he's just been working as a waiter and doesn't really know where to go from there. He enjoys languages, but he doesn't know that he'd enjoy it as a job. He likes writing, but again, he doesn't know if he wants to do that as a job either. He took a creative writing class over the summer, but he never really finished any of the stories. He could never find the way they were supposed to end, the way that felt right. So, while he "finished" them for class, they were never really finished. Even his teacher saw that.

One thing he can say is that he will never forget birthdays or important days when it comes to his family. His presents may not be big, but they always carry meaning...even if that meaning is only understood by him and the other person. He also will leave little presents or a snippet of poetry to convey the message that he is sorry after a fight or argument. Maybe it doesn't fix everything, but at least he knows when he is wrong or when he's gone too far. Admittedly, this is only for family and friends, people whose feelings he actually cares about, but it's better than nothing as far as he's concerned.

HISTORY!
Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric

Harley was the third Lupin child born. He stubbornly waited until after his sister was born to let himself be pushed out. It was probably a precursor to his future. Never quite willing to move forward with his life. As a child, Harley was easy to smile and laugh, but equally easy to get into trouble. He was the child that would pull flour out of the cabinet and end up getting it all over the floor and himself. Then he’d just throw it around the room and laugh as it rained back down on him. There wasn’t much that didn’t make him happy. Even at a young age Harley and [twin’s name] were inseparable. He would do everything with her...including getting into mischief.

The first time he showed magic, he was seven. That was the spark that lit the flame. Once that started, he constantly asked questions about magic and how to use magic. He wanted to know everything. It was really the first time he showed that much interest in anything. He quickly picked up little things, like the fact that magic just happened when he was feeling an emotion. It took time for him to be able to use actual spells, but he eventually got to a point that he was able to do some.

School was a trying time for Harley. It wasn't that he didn't understand. He grasped the knowledge pretty easily and almost always did well in school. He barely needed to spend the time looking at the notes that he took. He did...every so often. Mostly it was for show, though. If his parents asked him to do things he didn't want to do, "But I'm right in the middle of studying something!" was a common reply. Any complaint that he was being lazy about school otherwise was met with, "Lazy is such a harsh word. I prefer the term selective participation." His least favorite class was definitely gym. You had to participate in sports he didn't actually care about and then they made you do the president's challenge and if you couldn't do the run in so many minutes, they'd get annoyed with you for it. The breathless, stinging feeling after a run did nothing for him and so he didn't understand why he had to do it. What was the point of it anyway?

Instead of chorus in school, he tried band. Luckily, his choice of instrument was something popular enough that they wouldn't notice that he wasn't actually playing. He never volunteered to do solos and always very humbly turned down any that were suggested for him, claiming it made him far too anxious. Reading music wasn't actually difficult and he could figure it out well enough to get through. After middle school, he fell more into art than anything musical. His art wasn't necessarily good art. But he explained it confidently enough with the details that no one thought to question whether or not he was artistic. He was just labeled as an abstract artist. This led more than a few people to believe that he was a dark and mysterious boy. Really, he was just a very skilled bullshit artist. But considering it got more than a few girls interested in him enough to let him make out with them in the bathrooms, he wasn't going to argue with this image.

A friend at school asked him to come be part of the plays, so he decided to be a part of the backstage crew instead of being on the stage. After a while, he got to know some people and his reputation grew a little more. It didn't hurt that most people knew his dad and mum were famous book characters. It wasn't long into his sophmore year when he started bumming cigarettes off the older students. It was one of the senior boys that got him into pot and occasionally other drugs. His name was Justin and Harley figured it was easy enough to be led down a sort of dark path. Not that he thought it was really that dark. It seemed far more colorful than anything he'd experienced previously...but that was probably the drugs talking. Justin was also the first boy he'd ever let kiss him. It was mostly kept a secret and every so often, he'd get a text telling him where to go and he'd go there. When the year ended, Harley didn't get any more texts and Justin went off to college.

Harley didn't really react except to mention it to his twin once and leave it at that. Life and school went on as normal. If he paid a little less attention in school and got into more mischief than usual, he didn't notice it and promptly ignored any comments about it and questions about what he was trying to do. He was being a teenager. Leave him alone. He was still getting good grades. Dear god.

CHARACTER SURVEY!
Lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric lyric

WHAT'S IN YOUR CHARACTER'S REFRIGERATOR?
All of his food is junk food probably. He’s fond of pastries and ice cream. He will probably always demand broccoli (something he figures surprises his parents some of the time) Somewhere in the pantry is a hidden container of nutella. Nobody better touch his nutella.

IS YOUR CHARACTER TYPICALLY THE BIG SPOON OR THE LITTLE SPOON?
He just sort of lays there and you can either play the big spoon or wiggle your way into his arms and make him be the big spoon.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPULSIVE PURCHASE YOUR CHARACTER HAS EVER MADE?
He was kind of under the influence of drugs at the time, but he bought a hot pink bean bag chair because it was very bright and the color spoke to him...or so he remembers being the case.

BIGGEST FEAR? REGRET?
That he’s going to get stuck somewhere in a dead end sort of life. He won’t admit this, but he pretty much regrets every time that he disappoints his parents or fucks up enough that they get that look on their face.

BIGGEST ACCOMPLISHMENT?
Throwing a party in the basement of his school when he was 16. It is no big surprise he got suspended for that (nearly expelled, if he’s being honest)

WHO DOES YOUR CHARACTER VALUE THE MOST?
His parents, his twin, and Teddy & Victoire. There are a lot of others, but that’s just too many to list.

DO THEY HAVE A FATAL FLAW? WHAT IS IT?
Sloth? Probably sloth.

IF THEY DIED OR WENT MISSING, WHO WOULD MISS THEM MOST? WHAT WOULD BE ON THEIR HEADSTONE?
Everyone? No, probably just his family (which is almost like everyone?) “Ain't shady baby. I'm hot like the prodigal son” Probably something about being a good son.

WHAT ARE THE TOP FIVE MOST DEFINING MOMENTS OF YOUR CHARACTER'S LIFE?
1. Learning that he had magic like his parents...and then learning how to use it.
2. Finding out his parents/name was hella famous. Hell yeeeaahhhh. He sort of used that knowledge for evil, though.
3. The first time he took ecstasy at this party and woke up on a playground. He was surrounded by children and for a moment, he wasn't sure it wasn't just a band of midgets. Of course, the minute he got home, he had to deal with the "WHERE WERE YOU" questions and the whole 'Call home if you're not coming home'. He sort of zoned out after a minute or two.
4. Getting punched in the face by a girl's older brother for "breaking her heart". He still claims that it was uncalled for since she knew his reputation from the beginning. Wtf, guy?
5. Actually taking a chance and auditioning for a part in the play for his last year.

IF YOUR CHARACTER'S HOME WAS ON FIRE, WHAT THREE ITEMS WOULD THEY SAVE AND WHY?
1. His family, for sure. They need to be saved.
2. Probably any of the drugs lying about in his room
3. Maybe some shoes? A jacket if it's cold?
